Minnie Cogan

August 3, 1932 — January 15, 2015

Minnie "Minkey" Baughman Cogan, 82, passed on January 15, 2015 from complications related to Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Hagerstown on August 3, 1932, she was the only child of the late Roy Franklin and K. Irene Robinson Baughman, who was Minkey's closest friend throughout her life, until Irene's passing in 1994. A life-long resident of Hagerstown, Minkey graduated from the original Hagerstown High School in 1950.

Her loving husband, C. Alan Cogan, predeceased her by just 40 days. They were married August 5, 1950, just 2 days after her 18th birthday and continued to share their love and devotion to each other up to his death. They were able to spend his last days together in his room at Somerford of Hagerstown, where she also resided at her death.

She is survived by her loving children, their daughter, Debra Anne Cogan Gingrich (Dale), of Rockville, MD and their son, Mark Alan Cogan, of Greencastle, PA. She was the adored "Nana" to Dr. Matthew Gingrich (Brittany) of Raleigh, NC, CPT Dana Gingrich (Carlie) of Vicenza, Italy, 1LT Trevor Gingrich of Southern Pines, NC, Raeven Cogan and Coramina Rose Cogan, both of Greencastle, PA.

Throughout their long marriage, Minkey was an outstanding homemaker who also was active in her community. She and Alan were active dancers with Dixie Square Dancers for many years. She and her mother were decades-long members of Williamsport Homemakers' Club. Minkey was a member of the Women's Auxiliary for Washington County Hospital for more than a quarter century, where she gained many friends and was recognized numerous times for her many hours of dedicated services. She was a member of the Hagerstown Women's Club for many years and was co-chair of its annual Bazaar for several years until her Alzheimer's started to manifest.

She was a life-long member of Christ's Reformed Church on West Franklin Street, where she and Alan were active choir members for more than forty years. They had just recently joined Salem Reformed Church, where they were warmly welcomed by many old and new friends.

Family will be receiving friends at Salem Reformed Church, 13182 Salem Church Road, on Saturday, January 24 from 10:30 - 11:30. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:30, followed by a lunch to which all are invited. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Minkey's name to either the Alzheimer Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001; or Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742
