Alberta Marie Conrad

February 15, 1918 — November 15, 2012

A. Marie Conrad passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on November 15, 2012 under the loving care of Hospice of the Panhandle at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

Marie was born in Boonsboro, MD on February 15, 1918, the middle daughter of the late Verda Long Wilhide and Carl M. Wilhide.

As a child, her life was full of adventure. She loved telling stories about playing on the streets of Boonsboro and on the farm and orchard of her grandparents. As a teen, Marie developed a love of sports, playing basketball every chance she got. Her summers were spent at the river. After high school, she attended Thompson Business College in York, PA. On June 29, 1940, she married Charles Conrad. They moved to Charles Town where they were the owners and operators of Jefferson Tobacco Company. They were married 62 years before Charles passed away in 2003. Marie was very active in church work for many years at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Walter Judy of Charles Town, WV; her grandson and his wife, Chadd and Ann Kable of Baxter, TN; her granddaughter and her husband, Tonia and Carl Jenkins of Ranson, WV; two sisters, Mildred Griffith of Boonsboro, MD and Jo Adams of New Oxford, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the home of Pam and Walter Judy on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm.

Interment will be private.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the fellowship hall of the Charles Town Baptist Church, 211 E. Congress Street, Charles Town, WV 25414.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Point Church, P.O. Box 640, Charles Town, WV 25411, Charles Town Baptist Church, 211 E. Congress Street, Charles Town, WV 25414, or Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
