Alfred Earl Summers

Alfred Earl Summers, 92, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at his home.
Born in Hagerstown, on January 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Minnie (Ford) and Charles Earl Summers. In addition to his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by his late wife of over 30 years, Mary C. Summer and siblings; Carroll Summers, Ilene Mose and Edward Summers.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was a part of General Patton's Army.
Alfred was a farmer, worked for GE, Westinghouse, owned Summer's TV and Appliance, and was a manager at Shiffler Electric. Also, Alfred and his brother Edward built houses on the side.
Alfred had a soft spot for animals.
He is survived by his children, Raymond Earl Summers, Jane Staley and husband Bill, Doris Dawson, and Peggy Dieter; grandchildren: James Staley, Steven Staley. Denise Brining, Douglas Kretzer, Michelle Summers and Seth Dieter; great grandchildren: Emily Schnurr, Samantha Brining, Sara Staley, and Matthew Staley; step sister, Gladys Stoup; sister in law, Julia Summers; brother in law, Richard Mose; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alfred's name to the Washington County Human Society at 13011 Maugansville Rd, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
