Alice Dyeretta Boyce

November 17, 1915 — May 3, 2014

Alice D. Boyce, 98, of Hagerstown, died May 3, 2014, at Ravenwood NCC. Boyce, a triplet, was born Nov. 17, 1915 in Locke, N.Y.

Boyce's career as a librarian, special education teacher, ordained minister and college dean of women spanned more than 30 years,

After high school she attended the Chicago Evangelistic Institute graduating summa cum laude in 1946 with a BS in sacred literature.

She was ordained and served as pastor of the Reformed Methodist Church in Auburn, N.Y., a groundbreaking profession for women at that time.

She continued her education at Greenville College and Western Reserve University earning a second BA in Greek in1949 and a MS Library Science in 1957.

In the 1970s, she started a new career after doing graduate work in special education and began a new program in Perry,Ohio. At age 61, she was named Special Educator of the Year. In retirement, she served as the Minister of Visitation for her local Methodist church.

Alice is survived by her sister Elizabeth Jean Boyce Brooks of Pickerington, Ohio, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel on Thursday, May 15 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held one hour preceding the service.
