Alice Marie Michael Butler

Alice Marie Michael Butler, 89, of Hagerstown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Ravenwood Assisted Living, Hagerstown, Maryland. She was born on April 10, 1927 in Winston Salem, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Reverend Olin Bain, PhD, and Alberta Mae Michael. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Michael and her son-in-law, Mark Donnelly. Alice Marie was a graduate of Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. She attended the Shenandoah College in Dayton, VA, and Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. She was a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, NC and holds a master’s degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. She retired as a third grade school teacher from Greencastle Pennsylvania Board of Education in 1989 where she taught 3rd grade for 25 years. Alice Marie was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity UCC in Hagerstown. She met her devoted husband of 61 years, Kenny, at Fairchild Corporation where they were both employed. They married on July 30, 1955. In addition to her loving husband, she is also survived by two daughters Susan Donnelly of New Market, MD, and Carol Malott and her husband Frank of Williamsport, MD; a sister, Shirley Ann Fitzhugh of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law JoAnne Henretta of Sarasota, FL; four granddaughters, Jenna Donnelly and Justin Grubby of New Market, MD, Erin Malott McCoy and her husband Aaron of Williamsport, MD, Lauren Donnelly and Craig McIntyre of Rockville, MD, Emily Malott Henesy and her husband Joshua of Williamsport, MD; one great granddaughter, Addison McCoy, and a great grandson on the way, Bennett Ryan Henesy.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown with Reverend Mike Simane officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
