Alma Doris Puskar

Alma Doris Puskar, 91, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at her home.

Born March 22, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Edna Bittenbender.

She was a 1938 graduate of Berwick (Pa.) High School. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, hosting weekly prayer meetings in her home. She volunteered with many local organizations, including the American Heart Association, REACH of Washington County, United Way and Eva's Soup Kitchen.

Alma's active life in her later years was an inspiration to many who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Puskar, on Jan. 21, 2012; brother, Howard Bittenbender; and sister, Edith Bittenbender.

She is survived by two sons, William Faust and wife, Charlette, of Bethlehem, Pa., and Ronald Faust and wife, Mary Ann, of West Pittston, Pa.; two daughters, Joanne Parker and husband, James, of Hagerstown and Betty Van Scoten and husband, James, of Green Mountain Falls, Colo.; six grandchildren, Gretchen Smith of West Pittston, Jessica Moreland of Mercersburg, Pa., Preston Faust of Kingston, N.Y., Joshua Van Scoten of Green Mountain Falls, Jill Parker of Hagerstown and Jason Van Scoten of Denver, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren, Ava Smith, Benjamin Moreland and Henry Faust.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the care given to Alma by the staff of Hospice of Washington County.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Renee Mackey officiating.
