Avis Donald Reedy, 96, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his home.
Born December 4, 1917 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Angus and Dorothy (Sinn) Reedy.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during W.W.II, where he served in the Pacific Theater obtaining the Meritorious Unit Award and a W.W.II Victory Ribbon.
Avis retired after many years of service from Pangborn Corp., and also worked as a barber in Hagerstown for over 30 years.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen M. (Carbaugh) Reedy; a son, Roger L. Reedy; three brothers, Marvin Reedy, Angus Reedy, Jr., Linwood Reedy; and two sisters, Iola Diseati and Julia Seward.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Eugene Reedy and Paul Edward Reedy, both of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers Ray Reedy and wife Betty of Hagerstown, Merle Reedy and wife Ilene of Petersburg, VA; two sisters, Carrie Price and Betty Burkholder; a sister in law, Cheryl Reedy of Hagerstown; many nieces, nephews; special friends, Edith Beeler, Chris Keller, and Gerald Ingram.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30am on Thursday, January 23, 2014 in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with military honors being accorded by the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.
