Betty Boyer, 81, of Maugansville, Md., passed into the garden on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at her daughter's home in Falling Waters, W.Va.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Raleigh W. and Julia Wolford Bowers, and stepdaughter of the late LeeRoy C. Risler.

She is survived by one son, LeeRoy Boyer of Clear Spring, Md.; one daughter, Judy Boyer; five grandchildren, Phil and Brad Fox, Jeremy and Keith Selby, and Amanda Boyer; four great-grandchildren, Heather, Bradley, Ally and Macy; two step-great-granddaughters, Tasha and Kara; one brother, Thomas J. Bowers of Hagerstown, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Pete" Boyer; two brothers, Lewis M. Johns and Ned A. Bowers; and two sisters, Margaret "Belle" Kline and Bonnie Bowers.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the VFW 1936, Hagerstown; the American Legion 206 of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; and a member of the Eagles 694, Hagerstown.

A volunteer at Western Maryland Hospital Center and the outpatient center at the U.S. Veterans Affairs Center, Hagerstown, she also volunteered with the Triad program of Washington County and as an angel with the BCA of Washington County, and at Julia Manor.

She was formerly co-president, administrator and a humane officer at the Washington County SPCA, when it was built in 1970.

She retired from the dietary department at the Western Maryland Hospital Center and Gibson Greetings. She also had worked at Rosemary's Florist.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Friends will be received on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville WV 25430.
