Betty Lee Martz

Betty Lee Martz, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away, Saturday, June 1, 2013 at her home.

Born February 29, 1928 in Boonsboro she was the daughter of the late, Otis Russell and Esther Irene (Rowland) Long.

In addition to being a mother and homemaker she had previously worked for Fairchild and as a supervisor for the Ramada Inn.

She was a member of the Boonsboro Bible Church. A lifetime member and past president of the AmVets Post No. 10 Auxiliary, where she also held numerous other offices including financial officer. She was a 50 year volunteer for the veterans hospital and had received the national hospital volunteer of the year award. An officer and member of the Sackettes Unit 30 Heart of Maryland for 20 years. A member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary and a member of the International Order of Cooties. A 25 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary No. 694, Hagerstown and a 29 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 0211, Funkstown.

She is survived by three sons, John L. Martz, Jr. of Hagerstown, Gerald E. Martz, Sr. and wife Barbara of Boonsboro and Richard E. Martz, Sr. of Hagerstown; one daughter, Avis "Susie" Stouffer and husband Norman of Midlothian, Texas; daughter in law, Linda L. Martz of Greencastle; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, John Lloyd Martz, Sr.; a son Gary Lee Martz, Sr.;two brothers, Otis and Richard Long; five sisters, Ardella Smith, Goldie Gloss, Ruth Smith, Gladys Hutzell and Edith Schaffer.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor Robert C. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to the Valley Assembly of God Church, 17544 York Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
