Betty Lee Smith, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at her home.
Born October 13, 1928 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, Daniel Herman and Ethel Catherine (Provard) Barner. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ira M. Mowen and Charles E. Mowen, Sr.
Betty retired after many years as an executive secretary with Callas Contractors, Hagerstown.
She attended Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown and volunteered her time for the Boy Scouts of America, Children's Village, Big Brothers and was active in local democratic politics. Betty and her two schnauzers wore political jackets at campaigns and fundraising events.
She is survived by four nieces and nephews, Charles E. Mowen, Jr., Brenda J. Trovinger and husband, Gary, Pamela Mowen Moulsdale and husband, James,Melissa D. Mowen Barner Eller and husband, Shane and five great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Mike Simane officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Wednesday one hour prior to services at the the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742
