Bill John Stinson

Bill John Stinson, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at his home.

Born July 18, 1926, in Buffalo, Okla., he was the son of the late William David and Lovie T. (Glick) Stinson.

He attended John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

He retired as a civil servant employee with the U.S. Army, where he was a computer programmer.

Bill was a lifetime member of The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown; William Byron VFW Post 1936 of Hagerstown; "Cooties" of the VFW Pup Tent 13 of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown; a member of BPO Elks 378 of Hagerstown; Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF Scottish Rite of Free Masonry S.J.; Valley of Cumberland Orient of Maryland; Ali Ghan Shrine Temple of Cumberland; Williamsport Country Club; Hill Billy Clan 42 of Hagerstown; National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) of Hagerstown; and Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann (Shore) Stinson; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Loudon of Herndon, Va., and Sandra Sharon Lee Trevino of Sierra Vista; two sons, Bill John Stinson Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Richard Merrill Stinson of Huachuca City, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Joan Bradford, and a stepson, James Slayman, both of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta Elizabeth (Wolf) Stinson; four brothers, Guy E. Stinson, Boyce D. Stinson, Merrill N. Stinson and Stewart K. Stinson; and four sisters, Margaret R. Gaylon, Wilma D. Hunt, Annell E. Finneman and Jeannine M. Carlson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Richard Jewel officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF & AM will hold a memorial service at 6 p.m.
