William (Bill) Russell Bowers, 72, of Hagerstown, MD, passed peacefully on March 22, 2018 surrounded by family.
Born July 28, 1945 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Frederick Russell Bowers and Grace "Mary" Diseati-Bowers.
Bill was a 1962 graduate of Saint Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown.
Bill served in the United States Navy from 1963 through 1971 serving aboard the U.S. Ethan Allen Submarine out of Newport News, VA. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed with E.J. Fennel Factory in Hagerstown until 1988. He was then employed at the United States Army Garrison at Fort Detrick as a security specialist until he retired in December 2010.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Beverly Mae Bowers; daughter Kimberly Bowers and Gabe Freda; son Jason & Micaela Bowers; son Leon & Colleen Bowers; grandchildren Caleb Bowers & Riley Freda. He is also survived by his brother Frederick Anthony (Tony) Bowers, his beloved Aunt Mary & Uncle Ronnie Russell; numerous other cousins, and extended family, and two spoiled loving dogs, Tpot and Coffee.
Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, cooking gourmet recipes, reading, and walking his dogs.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc., 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Father Collin Poston officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends will be received beginning at 11:30 AM prior to the service.
