Bobby Stockslager

June 6, 1947 — September 2, 2018

Robert (Bobby) Stockslager, 71, passed away Sunday Sept. 2 at the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma Unit due to injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Waynesboro, PA on June 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Francis and Edna Stockslager of Leitersburg.

Bob graduated from North Hagerstown High in 1965.

He joined the Navy where he became a jet mechanic on F-4s in Oceana, VA. After graduating from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) in Pittsburgh, PA, his first job was at Summit Aviation in Delaware.

After moving back to Hagerstown, Bob worked at Fairchild Aircraft and Alphin Aircraft, becoming Vice President of the latter company. He ran his own company, RFS Enterprises from 1991 - 1995 until taking a job with the FAA, working in Harrisburg, PA and Washington DC until his retirement. Soon after retirement, he took a part time position teaching at PIA in Hagerstown.

Bob was an active member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown.

He held many positions over the years in the Property, Membership, and Nominating Committees as well as being Head Deacon and President of the Christian Heirs Sunday School class.

He volunteered for the care and maintenance of Camp Mary Mac and Bethany Beach Conference Center and also volunteered at REACH. Bob also managed his farm which had been in his family since 1903. One of his favorite activities was knocking over trees and clearing land with his bright yellow bulldozer. Bob will always be remembered for his love of restoring trucks, making wine, and for his mischievous smile.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carla Stockslager; and his children, Greg (Stephanie) and Jason Stockslager, April (Nile) DeShong; his two sisters, Lois Richardson and Mary (Tom) Elliott; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his wonderful but naughty dog, Reuben. He was also a special mentor passing on his knowledge to his nephew, Bill Elliott; great nephew, Jack Pangborn; as well as Mitch Unger and Jeffrey Paules.

Visitation will be at First Christian Church from 11am-12pm on Oct. 6. A Celebration of Life will be at the familys convenience with Rev. Jake presiding.
