Calvin Gill Jr. Clarence

Clarence Calvin Gill Jr., 83, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1926, in Clearfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence Calvin Sr. and Rebecca (Kolbe) Gill.

He was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, K of C Shuffle Board Group, Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42, Newcomers Unlimited Gourmet Group and the chairman of membership of the Catholic Golden Age Group. Clarence was also an avid fisherman.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He retired after 34 years as an electrical engineer at the Department of Interior (National Park Service), working in the White House.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria C. Huber Gill; two daughters, Donna Lee Gill of Gaithersburg, Md., and Valarie Jean Gill and Jan Thomas of Rohrersville, Md.; a son, Bill Evans and wife, Merriam, of Germantown, Md.; five stepchildren, Linda and Mark Cunniff of Washington, D.C., David Brill of Point of Rocks, Md., Sandra and Dr. Arnie Schuster of Hagerstown, Cira and Ken Baraby of Charlotte, N.C., and Wayne and Bene Huber of Charlotte; a brother, Earl Lee Gill of Barberton, Ohio; two granddaughters, Chrystelle Harris and husband, Elton, of Birmingham, Ala., and Cyrena Douglas and husband, Bill, of Catasauqua, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, Katherine Chesser of Birmingham, Samantha Clifton of Catasauqua, Joseph Harris of Birmingham, Montana Harris of Birmingham and Faith Douglas of Catasauqua; five stepgrandchildren, Nicholas and Alexis Baraby, Todd and Bethany Geiman, and Collien Driscoll; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Emily and Ben Driscoll, and Samuel and Cloe Geiman; and a nephew, Billy Gill.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, with Monsignor Alfred Smith as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
