Carolyn Semler

March 31, 1955 — May 5, 2011

Carolyn Semler, 56, of Smithsburg, Md., lost her courageous 5 1/2-year battle with ovarian cancer on May 5, 2011, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Orange, N.J., she was the third of four children of the late Robert and Dorothy Collinson. As a child, her family resided in New Jersey and Michigan before settling in Washington County, Md.

Carol graduated from Williamsport High School in 1973. Upon graduation, she was employed by the federal government and enjoyed a long, productive career with the Department of Energy in Germantown, Md. Carol also had employment stints with The Fez restaurant and Antietam Paper Co., both in Hagerstown, Md.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Keith Semler; a son, Joe Semler and wife, Emily Semler, of Smithsburg; a daughter, Kate Semler of Baltimore; two brothers, Ken Collinson of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Rich Collinson and wife, Diane Collinson, of Hagerstown; and a sister, Barbra Collinson of Sterling, Va.

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Friends will be received at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery.
