Catherine Louise Wright, 94, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, December 13, 2013. She was born on November 15, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Pierce and Helen (Nail) McNamee.
Catherine was married to the late William J. Wright on December 24, 1936. They shared 38 years together before his death in 1974. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She is survived by three of her five children: a daughter, Sharron Eigenbrode and husband, Butch of Smithsburg, Md.; daughter Sue Gordon and husband, Tony of Hagerstown; son, Tom Wright and wife, JoEllen of Greencastle. She leaves eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She also leaves behind one brother, Melvin McNamee of Tilmington, Md.
Catherine was a longtime member of the local chapter of the AARP. She was one of four original members of the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together-S.A.L.T. Council of the TRIAD of Washington County. She served as treasurer of that organization for several years. She was a volunteer of the local chapter of the AARP serving the community in many various capacities.
Catherine was preceded in death by two children, a daughter, Constance Ridenour and a son, William J. Wright, Jr. Also preceding her in death was a grandson, Thurman Ridenour III, brothers, Calvin McNamee and Warren McNamee and a sister, Mildred Benchoff.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Catherine's name to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
