Charles W. Grimm

Charles W. "Shorty" Grimm, 100, of Palmetto, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Braden River Care Center in Bradenton, Fla.

Born Oct. 26, 1910, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Ellen (McGinnis) Grimm.

He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

Charles was a former weight-lifting champion and bodybuilder in Maryland. He retired as a printer at Hagerstown Bookbinding & Printing. Charles never missed a day of work in 49 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Elizabeth "Sissy" Grimm; a sister, Nancy Stouffer; and two brothers, George Grimm and Edward Weaver.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Shirley Shinham of Palmetto; three grandchildren, Terra Burnett and husband, Paul, Scott Shinham and wife, Sharon, and Jeff Shinham and wife, Lisa; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Stephen Robison officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
