Dale Rinehart Schlotterbeck

Dale Rinehart Schlotterbeck, 79, of Kent Island, Md., died at home on Nov. 1, 2011, after an extended illness.

Dale was born at home in Hagerstown, Md., the son of the late Rhinehart and Mabel (Hollyday) Schlotterbeck.

Dale was a 1951 graduate of Hagerstown High School. While in high school, he was the manager for the North Hagerstown Hubs football team. Dale was a member of the South Hagerstown Fire Co., and responded to numerous fires, including the 1955 Grey Gables fire in Hagerstown.

Dale began his employment with the state of Maryland in Baltimore in 1953, and then worked at the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel ticket sales office in 1957 when the tunnel opened, until his retirement as supervisor of the ticket office in 1987.

Dale was a resident of Brooklyn Park in Anne Arundel County for 42 years prior to he and Virginia moving to Kent Island in 2004. He was a Scout leader with the Boys Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council Troop 121. During his more than 30 years with the Boys Scouts, he received numerous awards, including the Wood Badge and the Silver Beaver award.

He is survived by his spouse of more than 55 years, Virginia (Miller) Schlotterbeck; sister, Eileen Kneisley; brother Preston Schlotterbeck; sons, James, Stuart and Paul Schlotterbeck, and daughter, Bobbie Ann (Miller) Grove; five grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Elliott M. Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
