David Allen Raymer

July 23, 1931 — July 11, 2017

David Allen Raymer, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Somerford Place.

Born July 23, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Allen and Mildred (Davis) Raymer.

David served in the U.S. Navy and with the U.S. Marines in Korea in 1951 and 1952 as a Hospital Corpsman. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League.

He was an instructor for the electrical Apprentice Program for 13 years, and a member of the Washington County Electrical Board for 19 years.

He retired from Potomac Edison Company after 43 years of service.

David was a member of Elks Lodge No.378 and the American Legion Post 42; and a former member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee and Sunday School teacher. In 2003, he became a member of the Virginia Ave. Church of God.

David loved working in his wood shop and could fix just about anything.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Shank Raymer; his first wife, Nancy Raymer; and his son, Michael A. Raymer.

David is survived by his daughter, Susan Wood-Haines; a son-in-law, Stephen Haines; three brother-in-laws, David Miller and wife Eleanor, Johnny Wyand, and James Shryock; a sister-in-law, Janet Smith; a stepson, David Shank and wife Cindy; two step-grandsons and their wives; one step great-grandson; and his best friend, Merle Guyton and wife, Becky.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Inurnment will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to the Virginia Ave Church of God's Sign Fund, 17306 Virginia Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
