David Harry Anthony, 70, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 31st, 2022. He is survived by the love of his life and dedicated wife, Debbie, who was his high school sweetheart. They were married for 48 years.
Born and raised in Hagerstown by the late Harry and Margaret Anthony. Dave and Debbie raised two sons: Scott Anthony of St Cloud, FL, and Brent (Beth) Anthony and two grandsons, Braxton and Baxter Anthony of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his sister Theresa (Larry) Messer; mother in law Shirley (Ralph) Cunningham; sister in law Tamara (Mark) Reisinger, along with many nieces and nephews.
For 34 years, Dave worked for Safeway Stores, Inc., retiring as a Grocery Manager. While he built strong working relationships, he was committed in living out his family values, sharing encouragements and being present for his coworkers.
Dave discovered his lifelong love of music early in life. The sound of drums spilled out of his childhood home near the Hagerstown City Park and continued through his years at South Hagerstown High School. Music concerts — especially Southern Gospel and Country — were one of Dave and Debbie’s joys throughout life. Plus he enjoyed listening to his extensive collection of CDs which amazed all visitors to their home!
The joy of music may rank second only to his time spent with family — especially his grandsons, Braxton and Baxter. Cheering for them during soccer and basketball games was in Dave’s wheelhouse since he’s been a sports fan his entire life. Whether attending in person or dressed in his team jersey & cap in front of the living room screen in his easy chair, the Redskins, Orioles and Terps were lucky to have this loyal fan with a jumbo iced tea in hand.
Dave’s steadfast love and dedication to this family, friends and faith-based community can’t be captured in words. One last love that he would insist on discussing if given the opportunity, CRUISES! Since Dave and Debbie’s discovery of cruising in 2004, they have logged 28 in total, with Hawaii cruises ranking #1 on Dave’s list.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 5th, 2022 at the Rest Haven Funeral Home of Hagerstown, MD, 5:00-7:00 PM.
A service will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 6th, 2022.
