Deanna Rae Kunkel

November 4, 1953 — November 2, 2014

I'm out of here, apparently. Hi! I have said for over 11 years that one of these days this cancer would kick my butt to the curb. If you are reading this it means that I have died. On November 2, 2014 I slipped away, at home, surrounded by my incredibly loving family.

I am survived by my best friend and love of my life, (Richard) David Kunkel. I am also survived by my mother and best girlfriend, (Mary) Louise Statler Horst. I am also survived by my only child, Richard David Kunkel, Jr. and his two incredible children, my grandchildren, Christian Edward and Samantha Denise Kunkel. The three of them have been the light of my life since their respective births. Additionally, I am survived by my grandchildren's mother, Jennifer Harris Kunkel, with whom I have enjoyed our loving family. In 2003, I lost my Dad, Ray A. Horst, and a brief four months later in 2004; I lost my other half, my identical twin sister, Denise Louise (Horst) Crawford. We were Mirror Image Identical Twins. She was the wind beneath my wings; I am praying that as you read this I am again with my Sissy.

I earned my AA Degree from Hagerstown Junior College in 1973, my BS in Psychology from Radford College in Virginia in 1975, and my MS in Psychology from Hood College in Frederick, MD in 1981.

I worked for the State of Maryland, Developmental Disabilities Administration in various capacities for 33+ years and retired. I then worked in the private sector for several years before formally retiring.

My family will be hosting a viewing Friday November 7th from 6 to 8:00pm at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown; and on Saturday the 8th we will have a short viewing from 10 to 11:00 AM and a brief funeral at Rest Haven at 11:00 AM. Please stop by, say "Hi" and join in the celebration. When you think of me remember, "I am but waiting for you. For an interval, Somewhere, Very near, Just around the corner. (With my Neecy). All is well." Think of me often and always with a smile.
