Donald Arnold Smith, 81, of Hagerstown, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his home.

Born August 9, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Claude Arnold Smith and Anastasia Ann Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Millicent Alene (Nicholson) Smith; a son, Donald "Joe" Smith; a daughter, Linda "Sue" Snyder; grandsons, Christian and Tyler Snyder; great-grandchildren, Nathanial and Joshua Snyder.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a teacher at Walter Johnson High School for many years. He wrote for Technical Books, an article in the Encyclopedia Britannica on vacuum tubes and many oublished articles. Donald was a engineer and announcer withh WHAG radio for 40 years, then a weekend announcer for WJEJ until his death.

Don was a past president of the Funkstown Lions Club; a life member of Amvets #10; Korean War Veterans Chapter No. 312; a member of the Funkstown American Legion Post No. 211; a member of Harvest Baptist Church, where he was also a usher for many years.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Dr. James E. Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
