Donald Eyler Beard

Donald Eyler Beard, 89, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2017 at North Hampton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick, Md.
Born July 5, 1927 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late, John Allen and Mary Devona Eyler Beard. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Thelma L.(Brewer) Beard; five brothers, William A. Beard, Robert D. Beard, Jack A. Beard, Charles E. Beard and Edwin Beard; three sisters, Betty Monninger, Mary L. Mullendore and Helen E. Deavers.
Mr. Beard was a retired dairy farmer of 70 years.
He was a member of Christ Reformed Church, Hagerstown.
He played center field in the Washington County Independent Baseball League for several years, setting multiple records.
He is survived by six children, Suzanne Castello and husband, Joel of Texas, Donnie Beard and wife, Linda of Boonsboro, Cathy Beard of Boonsboro, A.J. Beard and wife, Kathy of Hagerstown, Edwin Beard and wife, Lucinda of Boonsboro, Julie Hendershot and husband, Alan of Hagerstown; Nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Florine Foster; two brothers, John Beard of Hagerstown and Larry N. Beard of Boonsboro; one sister, Joyce D. Miner of Boonsboro.
Funeral services will be private and conducted at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
Rest Haven Funeral Home, Hagerstown is assisting the family with the arrangements.
