Donovan Noble Burger

Donovan Noble Burger, 81, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 24, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Zinkond) Burger.

He retired as a clerk from the Western Maryland Railroad and Chessie System after 40 years of service.

Donovan was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown; a social member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 in Waynesboro, Pa.; a member of Antietam Lodge No. 2435, Loyal Order of the Moose in Hagerstown; BPO Elks Lodge No. 378 in Hagerstown; and Eagles Club Inc. in Waynesboro.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Betty Jane (Burkett) Burger; two sons, Gary W. Burger Sr. of Hagerstown and Rodney L. Burger of Baltimore; a sister, Nancy Kline, and a brother, Carlos Burger, both of Hagerstown; four grandsons; and one great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, Donovan was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Burger, Roland Burger and Wayne Burger.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Ann Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home
