Dorothea Mae Chatkin

Dorothea Mae Chatkin, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died at home on February 26, 2018.
Born in Hagerstown on Aug. 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen Carbaugh. She was of the Methodist faith.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1954, Shepherd College in 1958, and later received a Masters Degree from Western Maryland College.
She taught English at North Hagerstown High School for 26 years until 2004. After retiring, she served as a volunteer for the Literacy Council of Washington County.
She was preceded in death by her husband William C. Chatkin in 2012.
She is survived by a son, Aaron Chatkin and wife, Dawn, of Gastonia, N.C.; a daughter, Elizabeth Scallion and husband, Matt, of Maugansville, Md.; four grandchildren, Sarah Eby and Natalie, Keri and Jake Scallion, also of Maugansville; and a brother Robert Carbaugh and son, Chris, of Clear Spring, Md.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
