Dorothy Belle Hammond

Dorothy Belle Hammond, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Monday, June 8, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 1, 1930 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, Harry Lynn and Lillian (Rhodes) Koogle. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Hammond, Sr.; two sisters, Vivian Morris and Gale Koogle and one brother, William Koogle.
Mrs. Hammond was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She retired with 44 years of service as an associate for Peoples and CVS Drug Stores, Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown; the Funkstown American Legion, Post 211 Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies of the Elks, Lodge 378, Hagerstown.
Mrs. Hammond was an avid bingo player on Thursday nights and most of all she dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two children, Walter L. Hammond and wife, Gerrianne of Hagerstown and Brenda K. Short of Chambersburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Chelsea Shoaf and husband, Jordan and Kristi Kipe and husband, Jeff; three great grandchildren, Christian, Peyton and Bodie.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown at the convenience of the family.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to Hospice of Washington County, 714 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
