Earl Richard Smith

Earl Richard Smith, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Truman Carvel and Clara Belle (White) Smith.

Mr. Smith retired as a car repairman for Conrail and as a watchmaker for Landis and Carson Jewelry Stores.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He also was an avid baseball card collector.

He is survived by two sons, Craig Landis Smith of Williamsport and Keith Bennett Smith of Sharpsburg; four daughters, Gail Karen Smith of Funkstown, Pamela Ann Davis of Falling Waters, W.Va., Janel Susan Deavers of Williamsport and Cheryl Lynn Smith of Hagerstown; one sister, Helen Darlene Sparaco of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, June Landis Smith; and one brother, John Clinton Smith.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Justin Repp officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
