Elisabeth Varesko

August 1, 1927 — March 9, 2018

Elisabeth G. Varesko passed away on March 9, 2018 in Hagerstown, Maryland at the age of 90.
Elisabeth was born August 1, 1927 in Bad Rappenau, Germany and lived in Nuremburg (Nrnburg) for most of her youth and through WWII with her father and her 4 younger sisters.
After the war, Elisabeth met her husband Rudolf (now deceased) at a Christian youth meeting after he saw her playing piano and introduced himself. He had fallen instantly in love with her blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, and talented piano playing. After courting several years, they got married in 1951. Shortly thereafter, an opportunity arose that they couldnt pass upto come to America. So they came here and started a family.
Both Rudolf and Elisabeth worked at the Review and Herald Publishing Association in Takoma Park, Maryland for over 35 years, all the while raising their two boys (Rudolph W., and Roland) and providing them with a private Christian education despite their modest incomes. Elisabeth was a crew leader at the publishing company and worked with computers from very early on in the 70s. Rudolf and Elisabeth moved to Hagerstown along with the company in the early 1980s.
They eventually retired and remained there ever since. Rudolf passed away in October of 2016they were married almost 65 years. Unexpectedly, her eldest son Dr. Rudolph W. Varesko passed away only 3 days later, and so it was a difficult time for Elisabeth and her remaining son Roland. But she kept herself busy around the house and stayed in touch with family and friends using her precious iPad (at age 90!). Elisabeth enjoyed going to church when she could at the Highland View Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hagerstown, and loved to sing along with all the hymns and songs. When she couldnt attend in person, she watched the services on Facebook. Her church family was very important to her, and they supported and loved her dearly.
In addition to playing piano and singing, Elisabeth loved to entertain and was a great cook and baker. She always had an apple strudel at the ready in case guests popped in. She also loved to knit and crochet, and made many hats, socks, scarves, pillow cases, and other gifts.
She is survived by her son Roland; four grandchildren: Tristan, Dustin, Devon, and Tiffany; and one great-grandchild, Liliana. May she rest in peace.
