Elizabeth Ann â??Bettyâ? Long, 79, of Mount Airy, Md., formerly of Hagerstown, Md., and Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.

Born April 7, 1933, in Long Branch, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Edwin M. and Georgia Hannah (Covert) Ryan.

After being an Army wife for more than 20 years, Betty went to work as a bank manager and officer for Maryland National Bank/Hagerstown Trust Co., where she retired after 27 years.

She was of the Methodist faith, and was formerly a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

Betty was the matriarch of her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was always making sure everyone was taken care of. Betty always did her best to make sure her family and friends felt welcomed when visiting her home. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bingo, and watching wildlife with her husband in their backyard. Her most joy came from doting over grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty is also survived by a brother, Edward W. Ryan, and wife, Edie, of Oceanport, N.J.; grandchildren, Brandee S. Shipley and husband, Sam, Dusty J. Caudell and husband, Chris, Jodee L. Hawbaker and husband, Jeromy, Angelia K. Cellucci and husband, Michael, Kevin E. Baker and wife, Tiffany, John Joseph â??Jâ? Wyndham and wife, Mandi, and James Ryan Wyndham. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Cory, Jared, Caleb, Codi, Kayla, Tristan, Reece and Aiden.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. A family graveside service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
