Elizabeth Jane Niner

Elizabeth J. Niner, 88, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, Maine. Elizabeth (Libby) was born in Hagerstown on July 13, 1921, the daughter of Marvin and Vida (Huffer) McAdams. Libby called Hagerstown home for 84 years before moving to Kennebunk in 2006.

Libby graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1939 and from Columbia Business College in Hagerstown. She worked as a draftsman at Fairchild during World War II and spent more than 30 years as secretary/treasurer, working with husband, Herb, owner of Niner Awning Company.

Throughout her life, Libby was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and First Christian Church, Zonta International and Hagerstown Women's Club, as well as many years as a member of Hagerstown High School Class of 1939 Reunion Committee.

Libby was predeceased by her parents, loving husband, Herbert E. Niner Jr.; and brothers, Leon, George, William and James. She is survived by daughters, Peggy Warden, Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Susan Eccard and husband, Wayne, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; grandchildren, Steve, Jake, Erin, Lisa and Julia; and great-grandchildren, Maggie, John, Alexander and Eleanor.

Visiting hours will be Monday, July 5, 2010, 5 to 7 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. A celebration of life and burial will be Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel and Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Jenkins officiating.
