Ernest W. Finniff, Jr.

Ernest W. Finniff, Jr., 91, of Hagerstown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2015, at Coffman Nursing Home.

He was born on May 31, 1924 at home in Hagerstown and was the son of the late Ernest W. Finniff, Sr. and Lela Carpenter Finniff. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Finniff.

He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1942 and went to work at Pangborn Corporation until he was drafted into the Army in August of 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater. After he returned from the Army in 1946, he returned to Pangborn Corporation and retired in 1982 as a senior design engineer.

Ernie was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and sang on the church choir for 52 years. He also taught Sunday school to the youth of Otterbein, lead the Youth Fellowship, served as Sunday school superintendent. Ernie also sang in several gospel groups including the Harmonaires and The Three Voices.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jane (Blickenstaff) Finniff, three children, Jack Finniff and wife Joy, Shirley Finniff and Ernest Finniff III and wife Shirley; five grandchildren, Debbie Plume, Doug Finniff, Wendy Hogbin, Kathy Stump and Ernie Finniff IV; eleven great-grandchildren, Katie Hade, Megan Plume, Ryan Finniff, Cole Finniff, Sarah Hogbin, Tim L. Hogbin, Kelsey Hogbin, Asher Stump, Evan Stump, Cullen Finniff and Avery Finniff; one great-great grandson, Brody Hade and his sister, Elaine Smith and husband, Ron.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 106 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown with Dr. Stephen D. Robison officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24th from 6-8 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church.
