F. Lucille West

F. Lucille â??Teelâ? West, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away in her sleep Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at The Village at Robinwood. She got her nickname from her baby brother.

Born Sept. 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late David L. Stouffer and Lillie V. (Sigler) Stouffer of Leitersburg.

Teel retired from the Washington County Board of Education, where she last worked as a secretary at South Hagerstown High School. She also worked as treasurer at the Washington County Teachers Federal Credit Union. As a hobby, she and her husband worked together to make crafts that they took to craft shows.

Mrs. West was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene, where she served regularly in the baby and toddler nurseries and was a part of the Widowâ??s Mite group. As part of Widowâ??s Mite, she made clothing for and dressed teddy bears that were donated to various childrenâ??s charities.

She was a life member of Laureate Beta, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, since November 1942, where she served as both secretary and treasurer.

She had volunteered for the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Hospice of Washington County and Hagerstown Community College. She also worked as a volunteer at Lincolnshire and Hickory elementary schools.

Teel was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Reeder West of Chambersburg, Pa. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Weaver, Irene Elliott and Virginia Bowman; and one brother, David Stouffer.

She is survived by one daughter, Sherry L. Kennedy of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Michelle L. (Kennedy) Hoover of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Michael W. Kennedy of Hagerstown and Franklin W. Kennedy of Martinsburg, W.Va.; four great-grandsons, Matthew Hoover, Bradley Kennedy, Cameron Kennedy and Ethen Kennedy; two great-granddaughters, Krystal Kennedy and Hannah Rinehart; one great-great-grandson, Riley Battle; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
