Frederick William Stryker

F. William "Bill" Stryker passed away on Friday, August 3, 2012, at his home in Hagerstown.

Born April 6, 1929, in Berryville, VA, he was the son of the late Fred and Helen (Erb) Stryker.

Bill was a graduate of John Handley High School in Winchester, and then served 5 years in the United States Navy.

He was employed for 20 years by PPG Industries. During his time with PPG, Bill supervised the glass installation of the famous "Avon Building", also know as 9 West 57th St. in New York City. In 1979 he started Antietam Glass Service in Hagerstown.

Bill was an honorary lifetime member of the Jaycees International, a member and past president of the Longmeadow Rotary and was a member of the American Legion and Fountain Head Country Club. Over the years Bill was active with the Boy Scouts and served as director on various boards in the area. In his spare time Bill enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores (Lewin) Stryker; one brother, Allen Stryker; and a sister Betty (Stryker) McKee.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bev (Hoffman) Stryker; brother, John M. Stryker and wife Corky; three sons, Ron Binner and wife Kim, of Salem, VA., William L. Stryker, and wife Lisa, of Waynesboro, PA and David E. Stryker of Hagerstown; two step-daughters, Marcie Michael and Tracy Schindel, both of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Binner of Salem, VA., Nathaniel Stryker of Hagerstown, and Caitlin Rith of Hagerstown; and two step-grandchildren, J. Coulter Michael and Benjiman Schindel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, August 6, 2012 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 North Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD with Rev. William Warehime, Jr. officating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 7-9pm on Sunday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742, or to Children in Need, Inc., 131 West North Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
