Geraldine Catherine Spalding

July 5, 1930 — February 27, 2015

Geraldine Catherine Spalding of Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home and was 84 years old.

Born on July 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Amos Nokes and Ruth Irene Eichelberger Nokes of Hagerstown, Maryland. A loving stay-at-home mom, she also worked various jobs throughout her early life. She worked at the Love Manufacturing Dress Factory and was a Crossing Guard for the Washington County School System where she was beloved by all the neighborhood children that she protected crossing the streets. She also worked at Stewart Sandwiches and served as a bus driver for special needs students who adored her as well. Her passion and greatest pleasure in life, however, was being a wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. She was a selfless person and gentle lady. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with her family, cooking and baking their favorite dishes, and sharing the endless love in her heart.

Geraldine is survived by two daughters, Lucinda S. Crowl and husband Vaughn, Kimberly A. Forcino and husband Doug; a son, Steven K. Spalding and wife Jill; a sister, Gloria Cross; a grandson, Michael P. Spalding; step grandchildren Daniel Forcino, Sarah Forcino, Rachel Forcino, Peter Grunberg, Maureen Witmer, Christy Crowl and Adam Crowl, and nine step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in 1995 by her husband of 46 years, Horace F. Spalding, three sisters, Wanda Reed, Ottalee Dunn and Vivian Mowbray, a brother, Ralph Nokes, and a grandson in 2005, Steven K. Spalding II.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Rest Haven Funeral Home located at 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village to benefit nursing and direct care staff scholarship funds.
