Gregory Wayne Harne

August 22, 1950 — October 18, 2010

Gregory Wayne Harne, 60, of State Line, went to be in his eternal home with Jesus his Savior on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010.

Born in Hagerstown on Aug. 22, 1950, he was the son of Austin and Evelyn (Snyder) Harne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Harne and John Snyder.

Greg was a member of Grace Bible Church and previously a member of First Brethern Church, where he was a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and youth leader.

He loved doing for others, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and bicycling. He was a lifetime member of the Greencastle Sportsman's Association, where he was past Lake Committee chairperson and Sportsman of the Year.

He graduated from South Hagerstown High School with the class of 1968 and was employed in the aviation industry for more than 40 years. He began his work experience as a paper carrier for The Herald-Mail and then as a soda fountain clerk at the Arlington Drug Store. After graduating from high school, he obtained a job as a painter working at Alphin Aircraft; as he gained knowledge and skill, he became a sheet metal helper and then an aircraft sheet metal lead, continuing on to obtain his airframe and power plant license. He also worked at JRA Executive Air and Hagerstown Aviation as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic. He was currently employed with Sierra Nevada Corp. as a quality assurance inspector.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dee Harne; one son, Jeff Harne and wife, Heather, of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Jenna Harne. He is also survived by his brother, Rodney Harne and wife, Terry, of Chocowinity, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Dixie Smith of Waynesboro and Sharon Spears of Liberty, Ky.; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at 2327 Hoffman Road, Greencastle, Pa., with Pastor Herman Fisler officiating.
