Helen Louise Brashears

Helen Louise Brashears (Alder), 82, of Hagerstown, Md. passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.

Born July 12, 1934 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Robert Henson Alder and Mary Ellen Kreps Alder.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Donald S. Brashears who died Feb. 18, 1985.

She graduated in 1952 from Hagerstown High School.

She was employed at the Washington Co. Hospital Billing Department for 28 years, retiring Dec. 31, 2005.

She was a Golden Member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1948, a member of the Willing Workers Class, a member of AARP, and supporting group for Breast Cancer Awareness. She served as treasurer for the Hagerstown Braves Baseball club for 12 years.

She is survived by one son, Michael Brashears and wife Carol of Hagerstown; daughters Kathy Brashears of Hagerstown and Diane Hottle and husband Robert of Hagerstown; 3 grandsons, Chad Brashears and wife Carrie of Hagerstown, Justin Malott and wife Jeni of Smithsburg, and Kevin Brashears and wife Rebecca of Hedgesville, W.Va.; 7 great grand daughters, Mia Brashears, Kate Brashears, Isabella Brashears, Addison Malott, Jillian Malott, Vivian Malott, and Ella Malott; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Myrtle Swartz, Frances Hoover, Mary Morningstar, Ruth Semler, and Jane Rock; 3 brothers, James Alder, Thomas Alder, and William Alder. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday May 31, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. Hagerstown, will Pastor Greg Shook officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Helen's name to Grace United Methodist Church Food Bank 712 Church St. Hagerstown, MD 21740.
