Hillard Jennings Hayzlett

Dr. Hillard Jennings "Huck" Hayzlett, 84, of Hagerstown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at his home.

Born June 20, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Julian and Mary (Thacker) Waddy. He spent his early childhood in Franklin, W.Va., where his grandfather influenced his love of the outdoors.

Huck graduated from Hagerstown High School and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore. He was a dentist for 45 years and loved to give a person "a beautiful smile."

He was an avid outdoors man, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies, gardening and playing golf. Huck enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife, Margarett.

He was a member of the Optimist Club, where he was active with the Boys Club; Toastmasters; and the NRA. He was president of the Fountaindale PTA and the National Capitol Chapter of Safari Club International. He was also a member of their Mason-Dixon Chapter. Huck was a board member of Fountain Head Country Club as well.

Surviving him is his loving wife of 62 years, Margarett (Sisler) Hayzlett; three sons, Stephen Hayzlett and wife, Julie, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jeffrey Hayzlett and wife, Dawn, of Greencastle, Pa., Alan Hayzlett and wife, Diane, of York, Pa.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Lee and husband, Carlos, of Jupiter, Fla.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, Md., with the Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt officiating. A light luncheon will be held following the service.

Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Hillard's name to Hagerstown Union Rescue Mission, 125 N. Prospect St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans.
