Howard Peters

Howard "Baldy" Peters, Jr., 89, of Hagerstown, died on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center.

Born March 16, 1924 in Woodland, PA, he was the son of the late Howard and Bessie (Rowles) Peters.

After two years of college, Howard was drafted into the USMC and fought in 13 major battles during W.W.II. He enjoyed traveling and was a previous member of the Happy Face Travel Club and Amvets Post #10.

Howard retired from Sears, Roebuck, and Company in 1986, where he was a warehouse manager.

Howard is survived by three sons, Barry H. Peters and wife Karen of Hagerstown, Chris H. Peters of Strongsville, OH, Craig H. Peters and wife Kimberly of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren, Marc B. Peters, Scott Peters and wife Chisa, Shannon Peters and fiancé Angie, Mathew Peters and wife Dawn, Ryan Peters and wife Jennifer, Adam "AJ" Peters, Keith Dodson; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick, Jordan, Brooke and Abigail.

In addition to his parents, Howard was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Jane (Taylor) Peters, who died April 4, 2012; a half brother, Jimmy Crummy; and a sister, Katherine Rogers.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow with military honors.

Friends will be recieved at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown on Tuesday from 6-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Washington County Hospice or to the Humane Society of Washington County.
