Irene Anderson, 92, died Monday morning, April 16, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Donald G. Anderson.

She also is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Dempsey and Gary Cutler; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Marie Anderson; son, Robert Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Julia Anderson; grandchildren, Paul and Rebecca Bruce, Daniel Dempsey, Karl Anderson and Adam Yost; and great-grandchildren, Aidan and Desmond Bruce.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Donald Bruce.

Irene was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. As one of 13 children of the late Emile and Mary Seguin, Irene loved being part of a large family that included her brothers, sisters, their spouses, and many, many nephews and nieces.

As a youth, she was an avid swimmer and heavily involved with the YWCA as an instructor and lifeguard. Married July 25, 1942, she took care of her first child on her own while her husband served in Europe during World War II. Upon his return, they resided in Toronto and Guelph, Ontario, before moving in November 1960 to Hagerstown, where she was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church.

Active as a volunteer at her children's schools, she also worked at the old Sears store at Long Meadow Shopping Center for several years. Throughout her life, she was loved and admired by all who met her, for her vibrant energy and the loving acceptance she displayed to everyone she knew.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

A memorial service will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Martin S. Nocchi as celebrant, followed by remembrances at the graveside at Rest Haven Cemetery
