Irvin Lester Turner, 89, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his home.

Born October 16, 1924 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Hollie H. and Minnie I. (Bower) Turner.

Irvin served in the United States Army Airforce during W.W.II. in the Western Pacific and Asiatic Pacific battles. He obtained a good conduct medal, a theater ribbon, and a World War II Victory Ribbon.

He was a member of Valley Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown and the VFW Post No. 1936 in Hagerstown. Irvin loved baseball and bowling. He was a little league manager for over 25 years where he also umpired for the National Little League in Hagerstown. He was also a member of the Flying Feathers League at the Turner Dual Lanes since the early 60's.

Irvin retired in March of 1990 after 45 years of service as a furniture finisher for Statton Furniture.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years on May 11, 1990, Mary Jane (Cook) Turner. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle (Spoonire) Kowasic; four brothers, Virgil, Clarence, Allen, and Arthur; and six sisters, Carrie, Elsie, Betty, Florence, Ruth, and Sallie.

Irvin is survived by his special friend and companion, Jane Moates; three daughters, Sally Loomis and husband Jim of Baltimore, Nancy Saunders and husband John of Williamsport, Edna Mulligan of Hagerstown; three sons, Charles Turner and wife Kris, Richard Turner and wife Carol, Steven Turner and wife Amie, all of Hagerstown; four brothers, Samuel Turner and wife Ruth, Dean Turner, Harold Turner and wife Becky, John Turner and wife Louise, all of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Chaplain Dwayne Musgrove and Rev. Daniel Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 6-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Irvin's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
