Jack Herbert Fisher

Jack Herbert Fisher, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at his home.

Born Nov. 27, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Roy and Eva Mae (Herbert) Fisher.

Jack was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Jack was a member of Hagerstown VFW Post No. 1936 and Funkstown American Legion Post No. 211.

He retired after 21 years of service as a clerk at General Motors in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ruth (Sherrard) Fisher.

Jack is survived by a daughter, Karen S. Kidwell and husband, Cary, of Martinsburg; two sons, Gary W. Fisher of Hagerstown, and Gordon L. Fisher and wife, Jane, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Patricia Leatherman and Jane Ryerson, both of Hagerstown; a brother, James R. Fisher of Williamsport; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna K. DiBitonto; three sisters, Catherine Tressler, Madeline Brandenburg and Mildred Smith; and two brothers, Carl and Donald Fisher.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 28, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Thomas Perry officiating. Inurnment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
