James Amos Sharon

James Amos Sharon, 83, formerly of 818 Georgia Ave. in Hagerstown, where he had lived for more than 50 years, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Broadmore Assisted Living.

Born Oct. 31, 1928, in Clear Spring near Pinesburg, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Claire (Patton) Sharon.

He worked for 50 years at the Western Maryland Railroad in the roundhouse, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers and AARP.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Pauline (Stevens) Sharon, in 2002.

He is survived by a daughter, Juliana â??Judyâ? Stevens Miller and husband, Dan, of Hagerstown; a sister, Gladys Whipp of Williamsport; grandchildren, Barbara Sprecher of Hagerstown and Cheryl Miller Null of Greencastle; five great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James is also survived by a close personal friend, Mary Crabtree of Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Debbie Miller Taylor; and four brothers John, Lewis, Bill and Charles Jr. Sharon.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Bill Wyand officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
