James D. Phillips

James D. "Jim" Phillips, of Chesterfield, VA, formerly of Hagerstown, MD, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at his home.

Born August 4, 1930, in Archbald, PA, he was the son of the late James Vincent and Fernanda Maria (Biondi) Phillips.

He was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Richmond, VA.

Jim owned and operated Phillips Musical-Land & Video initially at Longmeadow Shopping Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, and then at Wayne Heights Mall in Waynesboro, PA for nearly 30 years. He was a musician and played the accordion and piano throughout his life both at home and with several performing bands. He also taught accordion lessons in Hagerstown in his earlier years. After closing his music store, he worked for the Baltimore Ravens sales office. He was an avid Ravens fan and prior to that supported the Baltimore Colts while they were in Maryland. He enjoyed his participation in the Ravens Nest and Colts Corral as well as the Dan Dimucci chapter of the Sons of Italy.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Sue Ann (Dellinger) Phillips.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Anita Michele Phillips Burker of Frederick, MD, and Angela Maria Phillips Cordero of Richmond, VA; two granddaughters, Ava and Sofia Cordero; a brother, Robert Phillips of Archbald, PA; and a good friend, Barbara Foulois of Martinsburg, WV.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Francis Phillips of Birmingham, AL.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 West Washington St., Hagerstown, MD, with Father James Nirappel as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-9 pm on Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.
