James Gleason Ensminger

James "Jim" Gleason Ensminger, 86, of Hagerstown, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Doey's House, while surrounded by his wife and daughter.
Born December 22, 1932 at the former Washington County Hospital, he was the son of the late Mary Daley and Gleason Ensminger.
He graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1950.
He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Engineman Third Class.
Jim spent part of his working career as an industrial mechanic, salesman, and branch manager for Tate Engineering.
He was a member of the former Grace Brethren Church. Jim was a former member of Morris Frock Post #42 for 50 years. While there, he was co-founder of the Korean Veteran's Last Mans Club and was its first Commander. He was Chef de Gare of Voiture 651 of the 40 & 8 in 1969 and 1995 and a member of the Past Chef de Gares club of the 40 & 8.
Jim was a former member of the International Management Council; Moose Lodge 212; Eagles Club #649; Alsatia Club; Moose Lodge 2435; Harley Owners Club of Frederick, Md.; and a Charter member of the Professional Sale Club Assoc. He was also a past member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club for 33 years and rode motorcycles for over 60 years.
He was a current member of Dixon Troxell Post 211; Elks Lodge 378, where he was Exalted Ruler 1998 to 1999 and could recite The Thanatopis from memory. He was a life member of Amvets Post 10; a member of the Korean War Veterans Assoc. Ch. 312 and served as Commander 2010 to 2011. He was instrumental in the design, direction and dedication of the Korean War Memorial located on Mealy Parkway, in Hagerstown.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Verna "Lynn" Ensminger, who he married 64 years ago in Alhambra, California. He is also survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Lewis of Williamsport; a brother, Joseph C. Ensminger; three grandchildren, Melody Miller, Timothy Miller and wife Shannon, and James Lewis and wife Mellisa; and six great-grandchildren, Nathan Miller, Gabrial Miller, Matthew Lintz, Aiden Lintz, Klohe Presgraves and Julie Lewis.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Pamela Ensminger in 1985; oldest daughter, Susan K. Ensminger Miller in 2012; his son-in-law, Terry E. Lewis; and sister-in-laws, Barbara Ensminger and Betty Thurman.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard.
