James Martin "Pap" Thompson

James Martin "Pap" Thompson, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at his home.

Born September 19, 1920 in Springfield, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles Taylor and Estella Mae (Martin) Thompson.

James was a veteran of W.W.II, who served in Patton's 3rd Army. He fought in the Battle of the Buldge and was awarded the Purple Heart.

James retired as a flight test inspector for Fairchild and a maintenance supervisor at Eastern Product. He was a member of Paramount Brethren In Christ; Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42; and the Pegasus Club.

Pap loved his wife, family and his church family. He remained very active flying remote control planes and golfing until the last few years when his health declined. Now he rests in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Marion Wyoma Thompson; two sons, Charles Thompson and wife Cheryl of Raleigh, NC., Philip Thompson and wife Penny of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Kellie Rimmer and husband Brian, Philip Thompson, Angie Cross and husband Donnie, Natalie Bryson and husband Richie; six great-grandchildren, Emma Cross, Stephen Cross, Nora Bryson, Kristen Rimmer, Justin Rimmer and Chad Rimmer.

In additon to his parent, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Umphstot and a granddaughter, Jackie Thompson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Paramount Brethren In Christ, 19106 Longmeadow Rd, Hagerstown, with the Rev. James R. Stauffer officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James's name to Paramount Brethren in Christ Church.
