James R. Jr. Fisher

James Roy Fisher Jr., 90, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born April 9, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Roy Fisher Sr. and Eva Mae (Herbert) Fisher.

Mr. Fisher retired after 45 years of service with the Western Maryland Railroad, where he worked as a conductor.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of St. Paulâ??s Lutheran Church in Funkstown, a lifetime member of Potomac Fish and Game Club, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378 of Hagerstown and the Western Maryland Oldtimers Club.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Lee Fisher of Hagerstown; two sons, James R. Fisher III of Mount Storm, W.Va., and William E. Fisher and wife, Denese, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Patricia Leatherman and Jane Ryerson, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, William E. Fisher II, Kimberly M. Fisher, Christina N. Martin, Stephanie Kendal and Kelli Desoto; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Janice LaRue (Everitt) Fisher; three sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Michael Louia officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour before services at the funeral home.
