James Willard Jim Manford

October 14, 1935 — October 30, 2017

James "Jim" Willard Manford, Sr., 82, of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center, while surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 14, 1935, in Cherry Run, WV., he was the son of the late Richard Lewis and Olive Esta (DeHaven) Manford.

Jim was a 1953 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He was a veteran of the United States National Guard with the 29th Division Association.


Jim retired in 1997 from Hagerstown Ford after 30+ years of service in the parts dept.

He was a member of Higher Ground Ministries in Hagerstown. Jim was also a member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and a former member of the ABATE of Maryland, Washington County Chapter.

Motorcycles were Jim's passion! He also enjoyed playing cards and attending auctions.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Arlene (McCarney) Manford; four children, James W. Manford, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Hagerstown, Adra E. Lapole and husband James of Clear Spring, Lewis E. Manford and wife Sherry of Falling Waters, Leslie E. "Casper" Manford and wife Wendy of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Michelle "Shelly" Jones and husband Marvin, Sandy Tedrick and husband Danny, Jeremy Manford and wife Summer, Nicole Manford, and Steven Carpenter; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. He is also survived by his faithful dogs, Chipper and Maggie.

In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by a brother Curtis L. Manford; and two sisters, Marcelene "Enie" N. Harper and Jenia E. Manford. Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Pastors Tom Stottlemyer and Judy Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
