Jean Ione (Poffenberger) Gettel, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Homewood at Williamsport.
Born July 22, 1922, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Joshua and Edith (Lizer) Poffenberger.
Jean was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was a member of Church of God Universal, in Hagerstown.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, John W. Gettel, Sr., who died October 16, 2014; a sister, Paulene Showe; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
She is survived by a son, John W. Gettel, Jr. and wife Alice of Falling Waters; two daughters, Donna Hewitt and husband Charles, of Hagerstown, Julie Bricker and husband Abram, of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Gregory Tyler officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 7-9pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's name to the Church of God Universal, 12819 Point Salem Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
