Joan Andrea Mazur, 70, of Hagerstown, MD passed away peacefully at home Thursday evening
October 4, 2018.
Joan was born on November 11, 1947 in Yardley, PA. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mildred Maroney.
She was a 1965 graduate of Pennsbury Senior High School in Yardley, PA and attended Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. Joan spent many years in the banking world working at various bank branches in Washington County, MD and ultimately retired in 2009 from the Smithsburg branch of Susquehanna Bank where she served as Assistant Manager. She then returned to work part-time for a few years with BB&T.
Joan loved spending time reading, knitting, gardening, and playing pinochle. She also loved traveling with her husband, daughter, and son-in-law; spending time with her Yorkie, Cody; and laughing and hanging out with her best friend Sue. Joan was a kind woman who thought about others before herself.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lester Mazur; daughter, Kim Janifer, and son-in-law Dr. Raymond E. Janifer; and cousins Jan Birkins, Eric Woolman, Lori Lessard, Rick Schroeder, and Nancy Kurica.
She is preceded in death by her son, Shawn Mazur, and her brother, Robert Maroney.
There will be a brief gathering of family and close friends on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 5:30 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
