Joan Ruth Gearhart

Mrs. Joan Ruth Funkhouser Gearhart, 88, of Flinton, Pa. passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Born Sept, 7, 1932, in Hagerstown, MD., she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ruth H. Funkhouser. She was the devoted wife of Robert P. Gearhart.
Mrs. Gearhart was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was employed by C& P Telephone Co. which she retired from after 31 ½ years in 1982.
She was of Brethren faith.
Mrs. Gearhart was a member of the Communications Workers of America, Telephone Pioneers of America, Moose Lodge (Home Chapter), Longaberger Collector’s Club, National Autumn Leaf and The Lake Glendale Sailing Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert P. Gearhart, whom she married Feb. 17, 1951; daughter Anita R. Bussard, son in law, John, of Hagerstown; daughter in law, Jamie Gearhart of Smithsburg, MD; one grandson, Lt. Colonel Joshua J. Smith and wife, Candice of North Carolina; two great grandsons, Joshua J. Smith II and Jonah J. Smith; and one great granddaughter, Magdalene M. Smith of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert D. Gearhart, brother, George R. Funkhouser, B.S., M.D., F.A.C.R. and granddaughter, Wendi Lyn Gearhart.
Funeral services and internment will be held privately at Rest Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
